Good points Jim. We have found that the better a Website does at communicating to a wide audience AND meeting the needs of its target market, the better the conversion rate. There is no down-side risk to most people understanding this site and much upside gain. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Glen and Tom...

My comment is your review of the eMiniMind.com website.

With all due respect I had to laugh at your critical opinion of the organization of the website. Your comments of how is he trying to make money, what is the catch?

Any one who knows anything about futures would know exactly what eMiniMind would be about. You need a mindset to trade Emini futures of any kind..... S&P futures ES, Euro futures 6E and so on.

I can understand the "what is the catch" part because with all my many years of trading I have seen tons of websites who want to sell you books, tools, trading gimmicks, education, and so on, for astronomical prices.

I did enjoy you review however, but to be fair to Tim his website and what his intent is...........he trades futures like many others of us in the trading community which by the way is very difficult, and we are always looking for improvement.

Tim, and there is just a handful, is a very good day trader and if someone was so inclined to trade futures, his information is an invaluable resource. I would like to think that Tim's intent is that............true success is built on the success of others.

respectfully.........Jim

After all the other open source carts were hacked this year. I decided we were only going to use Magento for all of our e-commerce sites. Their key to not getting hacked is that they separate the site's presentation from the back end. It's a little bit more difficult to develop but is well worth the trouble.

First let me say how much I enjoy and learn from your podcast. I can't begin to tell you the amount of frustration my clients cause me by not tracking their ROI of their web site. They pay me to create a site and then just forget about it. I send them analytics reports and ask them when we can set up a call and discuss the results. Probably over 90% of the time they never set up the call. Keep in mind they are already paying for this in their contracted maintenance fees. My solution has been to significantly increase my fees. I work with better clients, make more money and they are more engaged.

I just got a chance to listen to this podcast and was looking at both the .com and the .net version. I don't know if it changed or not, but as of right now it looks like the image of the female on both sites is the same. It is also interesting that the .com has the registry information set to private.

The best example I have seen of an e-commerce site utilizing a bunch of micro sites is Hayneedle, www.hayneedle.com. They have over 200 different domain names under one site. These sites range from home & garden products to sports to pets to seasonal products and gifts. Most of their domain names are high quality, short domains, such as birdbaths.com, hammocks.com, etc. If they were not able to secure a keyword specific domain, they purchased the next closest thing, such as doormatsource.com, simplymirrors.com, etc.

I'm not sure if this strategy is penalized by Google, but since they actively use each one of these sites it seems to be ok. If someone was just buying old domains with relatively high PR just to link to their domain that would obviously be frowned upon.

Hayneedle's goal is to buy domains for specific categories that use keywords with high search traffic. When searching for a set of keyword(s) such as "hammocks", Google will factor in that Hayneedle has a domain called hammocks.com.

From a purely user perspective, having these micro sites helps keep users attention on focused topics. Plus they do a very good job of integrating those sites. No matter how a user drops into one of their sites, they allow the user to navigate to their 200 plus websites with one click of a button, but if they are only interested in one specific micro site they are not distracted.

To boot, their management team is full of top notch individuals. Their executive team includes individuals who held high ranking positions at Wal-Mart, Google, Amazon.com, J Crew, etc.

Excellent podcast, even after all these years. I am going to retool it for my business (and podcast!).

I note that the more I work with clients (80th signed just last week) that the coordination between client and our firm is critical in the 'flow' of our client's development.

Thanks for such a great podcast!

I hired my medical website design company Aurora IT (www.aurora-it.us) to integrate a CMS (content management system) on to my cardiology website. This is a web-based application that helps users create, manage and control their own content, documents and images. Aurora utilize Bitrix CMS, and they are a certified Gold Bitrix partner, so they have attained the highest level of certification from Bitrix. CMS requires detailed knowledge to implement and a good system can store, manage, and format content professionally and seamlessly. As a result, they can be quite costly. However, Aurora IT offered this as part of their design package to keep costs down for me. I am thrilled with it so far!!

Great stuff, with good insight and ideas!! We recently wrapped Wordpress around our site and if our site can be done that way any website can be converted. We have interactive flash videos, java script, sprites, music, fixed positioning, auto scrolling you name it and it works great. The site is still brand new so we are still smoothing some corners but give it a look and see what you think. www.newwestmedia.tv

I just listened to 5 of your podcast on the way to work that have been sitting on my ipod for months. At first glance the look of your thumbnail said "out of date powerpoint" but the content was great hense the 5 episodes I listened to I downloaded them because of the titles. I wanted to tweet about your site but you don't make it easy by having social bugs at the bottom of your posts. I heard you say audio is good for mulitasking but I would say your blog page or your website is a good place for video, where is your video?? We are on oppisite ends our page needs some smoothing out and can't be found in search results yet but it looks good has video and social bugs for people to share with. I want to direct people to your podcast but not your site, sorry but your podcasts is much better!! How do I get a straight url to it?

The future of the web will focus highly on action-oriented web sites which are tested and adjusted, over time, to maximize performance. Software is already available that allows for sophisticated methods of testing different designs, layouts, and text, ultimately determining what makes a website more effective.
We’re not at a stage where it is practical or cost effective for small businesses to conduct this level of testing and analysis, but clearly a lot has changed in how sites are created today based on what the past has taught us. By taking a fresh look at your old web site and defining a better strategy, determining the needs of your target market, and meeting those needs with strong calls to action, the finished product will be a site design which is better oriented toward achieving your goals.
The added functionalities that my website designing company provided added much to my marketing strategies, helping me gaining better website traffic. And as we all know, creating a medical website is considered to be one of the toughest web designing, Medical web experts have developed an appreciable expertise in their field, and their expertise can help us gain profit.

Being a novice in this exiting business area I have really enjoyed reading your comments. It is a nice topic in these turbulent times; make profits from websites. Sounds easy once done I guess for a newbie there seems a long and hard way to walk before the dreams are coming through. I guess that a very hot issue must be to prove that the website you make will be the winner or at least among the 10 best on the search engines and of course to ensure that the investment will prove to be profitable. Another important issue is communication, do we understand the language spoken by our target group, if not all investments is lost and you lose credibility as well instead of building customer loyalty.

Great podcast on podcasting!

Gives me a great idea to start podcasting my blog posts. Why not just have them in writing when I can have them as a downloadable podcast too.

Quick question for you on your mp3 blog page.
Are you using the Audio Player from 1 Pixel Out? if so, how are you displaying the "audio mp3" button, "length, hide player, play in popup, download" links?
